I finally finished getting a bunch of additional photos in. These were scanned at super high resolution from the tiny proof photos mailed to competitors. I knew there was a good reason for not buying the actual photos!
| Here is a fine photo of me in full concentration mode. Transitions were really my specialty and at this moment, while others were struggling to pull their swimcap off, I was exectuing a well rehearsed plan. | |
| Caesar's Creek 1989 getting out of the lake. | |
| Getting out of the water. My original notes say this is Muncie. Could be. | |
| Ok, I thought this would be lame. I thought it was kind of dorky. This is the Idianapolis triathlon. This particular year, they put us on the famous Indy Speedway for a lap. And it actually turned out to be very cool. This picture (which I regret not buying) is one of the finest of me ever blazing across the Indy track at well over my average speed of 40kph. | |
| Setting up for a turn (see next photo) in the Cincinnati Biathlon. | |
| Cinci biathlon again. The photographers like to wait a corners because that is where riders sit up and slow down - ha! Not this speeding bullet. | |
| Cornfields of the Muncie Endurathon (1/2 Ironman). I'm still not sitting up for the corners. | |
| Ok, I'm sitting up here because I think the bike course just ended. I don't even know what race this is. I suspect Indy one year. | |
| Again finishing up a bike section. I've got the wheel cover on so I think this must be Indy also. | |
| Here is the 1988 Caesars Creek triathlon finish. What a long day that was. The big annoyance was a flat tire - I carried the tube the rest of the way. I did fix the flat in about 4 minutes. Not bad but it messed up my groove. | |
| Caesars Creek 1989 was a better year for me. I actually got a nice age group award for this performance. | |
| Here is the ill-fated 1989 Columbus marathon. Ok, so it wasn't my most ill-fated, but it was pretty bad. | |
| Ok, I'm getting better, but still not that great. This year was super cold and I remember being the only one at the start without a shirt. | |
| Here is the absolute highlight of my running career. This is the 1991 Columbus Marathon. I am clearly pictured qualifying for Boston by 21 seconds! Wow. It was a damn cold day (32F at the start) which actually helped me out. | |
| Here's the ill-fated Columbus Triathlon. Thanks to the miracle of modern photo editing, this photo isn't a nice shot of some woman passing me like I'm standing still. The bike course in this race ran over about 5 miles of grated pavement. That totally ruined my mood. | |
| Here's an updated version of the nice photo of me finishing up an East Fork Triathlon. | |
| Heading out on the run at Indy one year. This may have been immediately after my sub hour 40km on the bike. (!) | |
| Here I am at Muncie. I just finished the 56 mile bike and 1.2 mile swim in 3:06 - that's not bad at all! Ha! But wait for the run, tough guy... | |
| Flaco! Wow, this was a brutal one and yet I'm smiling. Probably all messed up in the brain chemistry department. I lost something like 8 lbs. on this day. I could feel my calves getting eaten away. Good fun. This was at the end of the run. You can compare my general appearance with the previous picture when I started the run. I am quite noticably leaner. | |
| Here is the 1990 San Diego Marathon (which should have been called the Oceanside Marathon). This is about mile 18. I remember because I was running great and on pace to smash my PR when the photo op came. Right after that, I totally bonked and staggerd the remaining 8 miles up the coast. Yuck. | |
| This is 1989 the Thanksgiving Run. I used to call that event the Thanksgiving Day Rain Run because it always rained. But this time, there was no chance of that - it was around 0F. Even I was dressed for the cold on this day. You can see one of my Generic teammates (some guy I never trained with). | |
| I think this is finishing up Indy one year. Could it be the year that I sprinted for the line and then puked a bunch of lakewater? Could be! | |
| This is the heart mini marathon. I'm guessing it's one of my later events (1993?). I think I ran it because I liked the poster and wanted it in my office, but I'd feel stupid if I hadn't actually done the run. | |
| I think this is actually my Boston Marathon finish. Wow did I have a sucky day. My running career had almost 100% ended the moment I qualified for Boston 6 months earlier and I hadn't trained one bit. I still actually had the endurance, but my feet just dissolved. But I can say "I did it." Yee haw! |
Here is the original set of Chris being an athlete.
| The swim start at one of the Indianapolis triathlons that Chris competed in. He's undoubtably in that mess somewhere. | |
| The difference between looking at this picture of the East Fork Triathlon swim and being in it is like the difference between eating a taco and being one. Hey look, on the left. It's Dennis again. | |
| Chris gets ready to take the bike segment by storm as he rides away from the lake. Who's that taking his picture? Dennis. | |
| Chris does not slow down for corners on a bicycle! There was a photographer there who didn't realize this. This is the Cincinnati Biathlon and since Steve C. did all the real work - the running, Chris was left with the easy part - the biking. | |
| Here's a nice shot. This is the bike/run transition!! Look at all those empty racks. Chris is the guy on the bike in the middle. This is an Indy Triathlon. | |
| Here's a good picture of Chris finishing up the East Fork triathlon. This is such a nice picture that a big version of it is hanging up at Chris' grandmother's house. | |
| Another shot of Chris finishing up an East Fork triathlon. | |
| Chris starts the run at the Indianapolis Triathlon. This was a pretty good race. | |
| Chris heads for the finish line after a generic performance in the Mariemont 5km run. The soccer goal in the picture is one of the ones Chris used to let soccer balls into when he wasn't sitting on the bench as a Mariemont soccer "player". |
