Ok, so it's not exactly a tessellation. This is more of an ambigram. More inspiration from the work of Scott Kim. Thanks to him, I'm starting to see text in a new way. Thanks to him, I'm wasting entire days doing this...
I noticed that my dad's name, Stuart, had some interesting properties. I started out by sketching "Stu" pretty much as it is here. Then I took it to AutoCAD and started seeing what could be done. I quickly realized the final configuration, but getting the letters to be just right really is a lot of work. Then I brought it back to the Gimp for some presentation clean up. Scott Kim gave me the idea for the animation. I wish he hadn't. It was a real pain! Anyway...
